Summary/Abstract: The basis of the article is to organize knowledge about footnotes in the humanities, discussing their types, content, functions, and purpose. The attention focuses on the traditional style of editing footnotes, used in works in the field of literary studies, linguistics, and editing. Other styles are also considered: Harvard, APA, MLA, Chicago, and Vancouver. The publication presents the views of representatives of the humanities on the topic indicated in the title and also shows the prospects for further research.
