Summary/Abstract: This study aims to explore the relationsbetween financial, knowledge and market barriers toinnovation and the innovation propensity of thePortuguese SMEs services sector, specifically at theproduct level. Utilizing data from the CommunityInnovation Survey (CIS) covering the years 2018-2020,the analysis focuses on a sample of 9238 companieswithin the service sector, each employing between 10 and249 individuals. The research employs a logisticregression model to assess these relationships. Thefindings highlight that some obstacles, such asinsufficient credit or private investment and restrictedaccess to external knowledge, are perceived ashindrances to product innovation. Interestingly, somebarriers to innovation, such as the lack of skilledpersonnel and elevated costs, can paradoxically serve ascatalysts for innovation.
