Summary/Abstract: The research project examines the coexistence methods between the Nordic nations and the Sámi, the indigenous people of the northern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula and large parts of the Kola Peninsula. Despite their population spreading across Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Russia, the Sámi have struggled to maintain pride in their culture as they attempt to assimilate with the broader population. This study sheds light on the ongoing challenges, position, and treatment of the Sámi people, utilizing ethnographic research methods, document analysis, chronology, publication study, and source criticism. By employing comparative methods and counterfactual analysis, the research addresses key questions regarding the Sámi’s cultural preservation and societal integration. Its findings serve scholars, non-governmental organizations, and the general public interested in similar topics, providing valuable insights into the experiences of ethnic minorities in the Nordic countries and broader Europe.
