Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is the emphasis on the major role played by intervention and effective supervision of the banking system, in the prevention of bank failures. How can banking panic be managed and why banks be aware to not happen panic situations? The paper deals with the concerns of liquidity risk in the banking system, specifically one of its main causes, the banking panic, and how it affects the normal activity of a bank. Given that the banking system is one of the strongest points of our country’s economy, and always subject to financial and economic crisis not only in the region, but also beyond, it is interesting to see how exactly these crises have contributed to our country’s banking system. In the first part is treated the liquidity theoretically. What is banking panic and how does it affect the appearance of liquidity problems in one bank? In the second part it is seen more specifically the banking panic in concrete situations in the world and in Albania, crises that we have faced and how they are managed by the Central Bank. In the third part the focus is on the impact of the financial crisis in the Albanian banking system liquidity. What is shown in this regard, liquidity ratios and profitability of the banking system?Finally, are presented the findings on the subject of the paper. The hypotehsis of this paper is: Banking panic has led to less liquidity in the banking system, by exposing it to an even greater risk, such as bankruptcy. In the realization of the paper they are used secondary data. The data consist of literature research and study of Albanian and foreign authors. Most of the data are publications of the Bank of Albania and the World Bank.
