Summary/Abstract: Nowadays innovation has become a key driver for any economy or company that aims to successfully withstand the fierce global competition. The era of knowledge economy and rapid technological progress means that innovation should not be an optional issue, but a non-negotiable necessity, not only for the emerging economies, but also for the developed economies. Business in Albania is part of the economy of a developing country, and therefore there is an urgent need to develop and become competitive. Investing in technology and innovation is now considered as the most important long-term factor, which ensures consistency and success. This study aims to answer the main research questions: How do internal organizational factors affect the innovation level in Albanian large companies? Does this effect vary with ownership and type of activity? This study is based on a sample survey of 234 large companies in Albania. The data were collected through questionnaires filled by leading managers of those companies, such as human resource managers, finance managers, project managers, innovation managers, etc. Factorial analysis and regression analysis on those data have led to some statistically significant results. First of all, the internal organizational factors appear to be determinative of the level of innovation in large companies that operate in Albania. However, these factors vary with the main activity of the company (manufacturing or service) and its property type (Albanian or foreign / joint). The results of this study help us identify barriers in the internal organizational environment to the successful development of innovation in large companies that operate in Albania, promote discussion on finding potential solutions, and help us minimize such barriers in the future.
