Summary/Abstract: The article presents the activities of the teachers’ library in the oldest Polish public school of secular character. The period in question covers the years 1850–1914. The author described the general outlines of the functioning of schools and libraries in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century in the Austrian partition. Based on the analysis of archival materials on the Nowodworski Schools and the reports from schools’ headmasters, the author addressed the issues related to the storage of collections, library funding, sources of inflow of books in the library, development of collection, its composition and quantitative increase, caring about book collection and its use. Efforts were made to show the link between efficiency of teachers’, and high level of teaching in Gymnasium of St. Anne.
