Summary/Abstract: In the article we analyse textual tasks taken from mathematical fairy tales by students, created in 2020–2022 at the University of Silesia in Katowice. The aim of the analysis is to identify mathematical concepts and units of measurement and to describe methodical solutions suitable for pupils in grades 1–3. We take into account findings from the didactics and methodology of mathematics, the cognitive theory of text analysis, the neurodidactic guidelines for mathematics education and the formal requirements for the first stage of education. The original research material comes from the textual tasks, contained in 98 mathematical fables. In the analysis, we use division of textual tasks according to the presence of conventional and unconventional units of measurement in them. We present those types of metrology tasks that gained the highest frequency in the research material. In textual tasks the conventional units of measurement are used thoughtfully and intentionally. Among other things, the presence of unconventional units of measurement is connected with an anthropocentric perception of the world. We believe that fairy tales provide an attractive context for early childhood education. An anthology of mathematical fables with methodical suggestions could provide an alternative to school textual tasks.
