Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the policy of the major European powers: Great Brita-in and France, in relation to the January Uprising. The text is a synthesis, whichis intended to bring closer the meanderings of the diplomatic policy pursuedin the European arena towards the so-called Polish issue, which came to light,as it were, on another insurrection. The article shows how the most importantEuropean states treated the Poles national liberation aspirations and played upthe subject for the use of their domestic policy, which was particularly evidentin the case of societies that were already partially democratized, namely the Bri-tish and French.
