Summary/Abstract: This material provides a brief overview of the form of organization and content of education in ancient Rome from ancient times to the demise of its state organization. The idea of educating the younger generations has been in the attention of Romanians since ancient times, the role of educators going back to the parents at the beginning. They divided their role as teachers according to the sex and age of the children. For a long time, children were educated exclusively in the family, the role of educator being sometimes transferred to slaves and then to primary schools, which were yet exclusively private, the Roman state being indifferent, until the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Empire, to the educational process. The Roman educational system has known a structure consisting of three distinct stages: primary (elementary), secondary and higher education.
