Summary/Abstract: In my research, I examined the Public Prosecutor’s Offices practice regarding the criminal offence „Abuse of a Minor'' Section 208. through 113 cases from the city of Szeged’s Prosecutors Office, from 2018 and 2019. In approximately 52% of the cases, the family in question was connected to the social service in one way or another, and the case started on the basis of a signal, coming from this so called “signalling system”. Through these cases I identified some worrying patterns, regarding the state of the social service, dissonant routines, lack of communication between the investigative force and the social service and not always functioning abuse signalling system. My hypothesis is that these problems restricts the detection of child abuse and slows down, or even sabotages the criminal proceedings, leaving the childrens in danger. In this essay, I wish to give an argument on why is it important to research the work and the state of the social service in a criminology study, write about three problems I experienced while studying these cases and as a closure, offer my short advices on the possible solutions.
