On Ethnic Style in the Art Textile of the Balkan Peoples

Summary/Abstract: A general survey has been made of the development of the ethnic features of the art textile of the Balkan peoples. It confirms the stability of the ethnic peculiarity of folk arts and the presence of „ethnic style” in the cultural history of every nation. This style has been constantly renovating while its ethnic peculiarity remains unchanged. The author underlines in conclusion that ethnic style is manifested mainly in the art culture of every nation, in spite of the use of equal material and technical foundation. Inferences have been made with regard to the creative abilities of the Balkan peoples, and with regard to the value of their contribution to the common treasure-house of world culture.
