Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the theoretical background related to book work as an integral part of supporting children with disabilities. Primarily, the book support described can be implemented in a family setting or a counselling setting as part of early care for families with children with disabilities. The authors of the paper describe the book as a medium between the adults (professional, parent) and the child with a disability. It is the latter that they see as instrumental in developing the child’s overall personality, with an emphasis on gradually achieving as much independence as possible and improving quality of life.
