Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to answer the question why the law is binding (applies), that is, it binds citizens in their conscience. The author presents the Thomistic concept of law based on the considerations of Czesław Martyniak. Martyniak was an outstanding pre-war Polish lawyer and legal philosopher. He was a professor at the Catholic University of Lublin. He experienced in himself the wickedness of legal norms, that is, lawlessness. He was arrested and shot by Nazi Germans in December 1939.
