Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of how terrorism in Western Germany was portrayed in film, from the time when RAF was established until now. The thirty years’ period of the post war history of the Federal Republic of Germany is a key element in the national, social and cultural identity. It is not possible to understand contemporary Germany, and the present state of German film culture without awareness of this period in German history and how it was portrayed in film. Fiuk briefly analyses and presents the genesis and activities of RAF, and presents possible reasons for why German filmmakers are interested in this matter. She also highlights the connections between history of Germany and the history of German film. Fiuk also considers the reaction of the public to terrorism and its portrayal in the media.
