Summary/Abstract: Based on the original archive documents from the State Archives in Split, this paper gives a brief account of post-war communist repression, prison camps and persecution of the clergy in Split and its wider area. Special emphasis is placed on the case of Friar Petar Turkalj, an abbot of the Monastery of St. Joseph, who in early 1946 was sentenced to 12 years of forced labour in prison. Turkalj died while serving his sentence in the Stara Gradiška Penitentiary Rehabilitation Centre, and his verdict was annulled in October 2022 by the County Court in Split.
