Summary/Abstract: The article presents an attempt to decentre the Anthropocene in Polish language lessons by introducing a new, symbiotic perspective. Using tools from the new humanities, particularly ecocriticism, the author changes the perspective of interpreting selected school readings. She introduces new categories into humanities education, such as “withness,” “flat ontology,” “relationality,” and “agency,” with “care” for the world being the most important. Care becomes a methodology for reading texts. The article concludes with outlining a new conceptual framework – the Symbiocene, which could replace the previous one, namely the Anthropocene – an era of conquest and consumption would be replaced by good coexistence. The Symbiocene, a community-based life between species based on mutual care, could become the basis for new stories in Polish language lessons.
