Summary/Abstract: The tourist guides are pragmatic texts meant to facilitate the travellers' contact with a foreign culture that is often different from theirs, by presenting the cultural peculiarities of the geographical space they are about to discover. We will refer here to the tourist guides of Romania intended for French travellers (or French-speaking people). The corpus submitted to our analysis consists of booklets, pamphlets and leaflets presenting four cities of Transylvania (Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Alba Iulia and Mediaş). As a mediator between two languages and two cultures, the translator must have a very good proficiency in both languages and a perfect cultural competence. The good or poor quality of the translation may have a positive or negative influence on the potential travellers' decisions. We intend to show how these texts work as an adequate communication means in the cultural dialogue and therefore an invitation to travel.
