Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the challenges posed by the changes entailed in the educational system in Romania in terms of teacher training paradigms. Following the new Law of education 1/2011, the educational system will have to undergo essential changes, especially in terms of teacher education. The concurrent teacher education (carried out in parallel with the undergraduate studies (Module I) and graduate studies (Module II) will be replaced by graduate studies in the form of a Master of Education, after which prospective teachers have to perform an induction year, in a designated school, under the supervision of a mentor, following a pre-set programme, stipulated in The Order of the Minister of Education no. 5485 of 29 September 2011. It is important that both prospective teachers and mentors get appropriate training for the new educational system. The experienced teachers, the mentors need to understand their role and importance in shaping the beginning teachers’ professional development, by becoming genuine role-models and motivational drivers.
