Summary/Abstract: Among the intellectuals who made significant contributions to the development of Azerbaijani literature and folklore is Salman Mumtaz. In 1884, he was born in Sheki, one of the ancient centers of Azerbaijan. Together with his mother, Salman moved to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan after losing his father as a child. In Ashgabat, he acquired a brief, yet profound education, which sparked a special interest in science and literature, enabling him to delve into the works of classical thinkers of the East. S. Mumtaz, who returned to his homeland after 1918, has already achieved success in the field of research. He conducted new scientific research on the main representatives of classical literature, Nizami Ganjavi, Imadedin Nasimi, Muhammad Fuzuli, Shah Ismayil Khatai, Mollah Panah Vagif and dozens of famous artists, and made them available to the scientific community. Salman Mumtaz conducted extensive research on various genres of folk literature and published his conclusions in this field in the form of articles. Regrettably, a large part of these invaluable samples of the people's speech treasure was destroyed due to his repression after 1937 and his death in prison in 1941. Despite this, some of the samples of folk literature collected by the great folklorist are preserved in the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fizuli of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. If we have looked at the genre composition of the folklore examples included here, we will see that they are basically bayati, proverbs, fables, riddles, and ashug poetry. Naturally, the proverbs and fables fables collected by Salman Mumtaz while traveling from village to village have a special weight here. The materials gathered here are considered a significant source for future researchers.
