Summary/Abstract: The whole three-part article discusses memoirs of the communists activists as an important source about the “class war” from the 1905–1907 Revolution to the outbreak of World War II. Its second part deals with the great dilemma of the first year after the Great War: independence or social revolution? While for the older communists (veterans of 1905) the choice seemed to be quite obvious, for their younger comrades it was still time of political growth, often marked by disappontment by the country they had fought for.No matter that the discussed texts were supposed to play role in the propaganda, they allow to see various events from the history of Łódź (e.g. strikes and demonstrations) “under the microscope” by presenting the participants’ emotions as well as (sometimes) their individual outlook and characters.
