Summary/Abstract: The study examines the issue of territorial development in Hungary from the point of view of economic structure, from a specific perspective. The foundational economy (FE) refers to the activities that provide the goods and services necessary for everyday life. Their availability has a significant impact on the well-being of individuals, and through this the quality of foundational activities contributes to the competitive-ness of regions and national economies by strengthening local economies and the internal market. The present research aims to provide a detailed assessment of the distribution and performance of economic activities in Hungary between foundational and non-foundational activities and across different regions, using enterprise data.
