Summary/Abstract: Intra-theatre air transport of special forces or ground troops, from the camping areas to the points of contact with the enemy, can be done, in the author’s opinion, only by helicopters or other aircraft able to take off and, especially, to land vertically or on short distances, on land improvised or ad hoc areas. This requires, on the one hand, that significant special forces detachments or ground forces are permanent, on a rotation basis, at a high alert level and, on the other hand, that air forces and assets are permanently prepared to take off in the shortest time, with destinations which often are communicated or changed during flight, by virtue of the principle of dynamic allocation of targets.
