A Need for Research of Poverty Issues and Its Social Protection

Summary/Abstract: Poverty and the social protection related thereto is a present-day issue and needs to be addressed and researched. This need arises from the fact that poverty and all problems related thereto exist in one form or another in all countries notwithstanding their economic development. Poverty is characterized as a phenomenon with various dimensions; however, it is not about the lack of income among part of the population only. Within the context of the COVID-19 crisis worldwide, the poverty problems and social exclusion are becoming a particularly sensitive topic since poor people are in the high-risk groups of the population, who are affected concerning their health. Social protection is seen as a tool for social justice and means to reduce poverty. Social protection is various mechanisms collected in one, regulated by legislative and normative acts ensuring income for individuals in case of certain risks. Ensuring a social protection system functioning in a useful way is among the main priorities of the social policy in the EU.
