Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the oldest Irish political party – Sinn Féin – which in recent years has become a key element of the Irish and Northern Irish party systems, achieving record high results in elections to the Irish House of Representatives and the Northern Ireland Assembly. Analyzing the most important political events inscribed in the history of Sinn Féin and the evolution of its political programme, the authors try to point out the main reasons for the popularity of the party, which for a long time was considered radical and dogmatic. Using the historical method and the method of institutional and legal analysis, they verify the hypothesis that the current position of Sinn Féin is, on the one hand, a consequence of the normalization of the situation on both sides of the border, and on the other hand, it is related to some important events that have recently taken place in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
