The Fires in Świdnica. Stopping and Preventing Fires According to the Fire Code of 168

Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the most important issues of fire prevention and the organization of firefighting according to the fire order of 1682. The overview of the descriptions and memories about fires from 1313–1762 shows that they rarely had impact (and even then – to a limited extent) on the fire protection legislation issued by the city council. The appendix contains extensive descriptions of events recorded in 1313, 1393, 1420, 1528, 1633, 1716, 1757 and 1758, as well as the municipal guidelines written for street masters and the instructions for operating a fire pump.
