Summary/Abstract: The paper outlines Wincenty Karuga’s public activities after 1945. Directly after the World War II, Karuga articipated in the most important events of the societal life of Opole Silesia. He held the positions of the Nysa starost, the vice-president of the Voivodeship National Council (WRN) in Opole, and the deputy of the second term of the Polish People’s Republic Parliament. He is an intriguing and mysterious figure: a good politician and a host, a propagator of the renovation of the Nysa cathedral, a defender of the town dwellers against the looting politics of the central authorities. The article provides the chronological cross-section of Karuga’s entire life from the brief summary of his pre-war history, to his post-war public activities interrupted by his sudden death in 1961.
