Summary/Abstract: Round anniversaries of important historical events often give rise to a profound analysis of their meaning for given states and nations. This consideration may also apply to historical figures such as Wojciech Korfanty who played a distinctive part in the modern history of Upper Silesia and Poland. Having this in mind, to commemorate the Year of Wojciech Korfanty as constituted for 2023 in Poland, the authors of this paper attempt to analyse his image in two kinds of sources. The first area covers contemporary history textbooks; the second and specific one deals with Korfanty’s multidimensional presence in the public space, i.e. forms of commemorating such as monuments, plaques, schools and institutions patronages, street names, publications or murals. The analysis demonstrates that Wojciech Korfanty, as one of fathers of Polish restoration, is deeply rooted in one of the basic sources of students’ historical knowledge, namely textbooks. With each passing year of independent Poland (after 1989), Korfanty has proven to be more important as a figure increasingly visible in the public space. Title (original language and alphabet)
