Summary/Abstract: The historical monument situated in the town of Galaţi, at no. 100, Domnească Street, erected at the end of the XIX-th century, was enrolled in the “List of the Historical Monuments” under the name of “Bănică Grigorescu House”. Later researches revealed that the empty parcel on which the building was erected had been purchased by the engineer of Covurlui County, Gheorghe M. Radu. He was also the one who ordered and, according to the construction authorization issued by the Hall of Galaţi, in 1911, carried on the erection of the building. The building stands out in the architectural landscape of Domnească Street not only through the fact that its main entry is directly from the street, a very uncommon situation for a building owned by a single family, but also through its architecture, influenced by the French Academism. Its architecture impresses by the monumental entry, by a porch with two cylindrical pillars, having composite capitals, which supports a large colonnade, similar to a vault. Over the colonnade stands a dome-shaped roof. Also impressive are the decorations of the façades. Since responsible for the architecture of the building is its first owner, Gheorghe M. Radu, we consider that this building, erected in 1911, should bear his name.
