Summary/Abstract: The article contains 47 documents, selected from the rich documentary fund dealing with the development and the modernization of the town of Galaţi. They were published between 1855 and 1856, in the Administrative Handbook of Moldavia, and deal with the application of the “Organic Rules”, the normative act considered as the first modern Constitution of Moldavia. The development of the town of Galaţi during the first half of the XIX-th century was due especially to the ruler Mihail Sturdza, who realized the role that the only port of Moldavia could have played in the economic policy of the great powers from the Western Europe and of the Tsarist Empire, after the Treaty from Adrianopol (1829).
