Summary/Abstract: Traian Rotariu, emeritus professor of Sociology at the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, passed away on the 28th of December 2021. He left behind an outstanding oeuvre in sociology, quantitative social research, and demography, as well as a legacy of institution-building that materialized in the creation of the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work at the Babeș-Bolyai University in 2001 and of the Centre for Population Studies, at the same university, in 2002. He served as editor and later as advisory board member of Studia Sociologia and the Romanian Journal of Population Studies.
