Summary/Abstract: The major tonal harmony in jazz music has its own unique image and its principles, logic and features. The article examines several specific harmonic approaches that characterize this process. Logical relationships and similarities are established between secondary dominant progressions, substitute chords (tritone substitutions), passing diminished chords, and related II–7 / V7 chords.
