Summary/Abstract: The article confronts Stanisław Judycki’s position on the issue of truth with the phenomenon of post-truth. Judycki defends the concept of radically objective truth placing the truth-bearers in the Divine Mind. This position has its downsides, such as the inability to explain the phenomenon of post-truth. The author of this article claims that it is necessary to distinguish between absolute truth and social truth. Post-truth is generated at the level of social truth and feeds on the lack of distinction between the two layers. The phenomenon of post-truth can be explained by employing the consensus theory of truth (Bufacchi 2021): it is the construction of an alternative consensus in an atmosphere of questioning the very meaning of truth (and it is distinct from lying or ignorance). The author believes that in this context the concept of a social construct works better than the concept of a consensus. However, she agrees with Bufacchi that the antidote to post-truth is the abandonment of a binary division between truth and post-truth (truths accepted by people are also social constructs) and, whenever possible, replacing the term truth with other terms related to human assessments and cognitive activities.
