Summary/Abstract: The riddle as a valuable content of oral folk literature is insufficiently represented in the current curriculum and in teaching for the younger grades of primary school in the Republic of Srpska. It is assumed that the riddle, as a very old folklore genre, had a more pedagogical than entertaining character in the past. The paper discusses the possibility of using the riddle as a motivational tool and as a teaching content in the teaching of the Serbian language. In both cases, it can be in the function of speech development, it can complete the experience of students, stimulate thought activity, research spirit, critical thinking, which we will try to show with this paper.
