Summary/Abstract: This paper delves into the epistolary exchanges of two pivotal figures in Romanian literature, Mihai Eminescu and Ion Luca Caragiale, situating their correspondences within the framework of 19th-century sociocultural dynamics. Eminescu's letters are marked by a profound introspective disposition, engaging deeply with philosophical, existential themes. His epistolary style reflects a solitary intellectual rigor, grappling with the ontological and socio-political intricacies of his era. Conversely, Caragiale's correspondences are characterized by an extroverted and socially perceptive narrative, imbued with acerbic wit, irony, and a nuanced critique of contemporary societal norms. Through a meticulous comparative analysis of their epistolary methodologies, this study elucidates the divergent modes of sociability embodied in their writings. It underscores how their distinct epistolary practices not only reflect their individual literary personas but also encapsulate broader epistemological and cultural currents of 19th-century Romania. This exploration offers a nuanced understanding of their literary legacies and provides critical insights into the intellectual and cultural landscapes they navigated.
