MANIPULATIONS THROUGH MEDIA

Summary/Abstract: The mass media in the 21st century have an essential effect on the social developments. In order to insure the media coverage of desired events, the publication of the information that is to their advantage, the avoidance of the topics that might harm them, various power centers act with manipulations on media publications. A special role in the manipulation of the publicity through the media is played by spin doctors whose methods and operation techniques are particularly discussed in this paper. The paper also deals with the weaknesses of the media that favor the activity of various manipulators; the emphasis is laid on the owners who, for the sake of profit, agree to the publication of the information from the power structures they favor, on the journalists who, owing to the speed of today’s media, have to prepare and publish a piece of information in the shortest time possible, as well as on the news agencies that greatly determine the agenda of the media.
