Summary/Abstract: For the existence of people, it is necessary to maintain and nurture their own identity. Various pressures and identity cancellation were recorded through historical events, whether they came from an enemy who enslaved a nation, or from interest groups acting subtly through ‘soft power’. The same thing was happening to the Croatian national and cultural identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina which has been under various pressures during various historical periods. So, the new times of information have some new threats, some new methods and tools, in which the media plays a significant role. Through the technique of ‘creating the pressure’ and “producing the oblivion,” the media has been creating certain narratives forming the public knowledge corpus and trying to influence political decision makers. By implementation of certain information strategies, a new ‘collective memory’ is created, a new identity, where there will be no place for preserved existing traditions, cultures and identities of the Croatian people above all. The language itself is subject to various pressures, and we know that the identity of a nation is inextricably connected to its language and it is part of the social knowledge of a nation. Therefore, the preservation of language is important for the preservation of identity. In order to address these challenges, it is necessary to have defined information strategies which would define a framework for identity preservation. Indicators to date point to the insufficiently conceived information strategy of the Croatian people and its political representatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is evident that the loss of information and media warfare significantly complicates the position of the Croatian people in relation to other identities which dominate the media and information space. Without media in their own language and developed information strategies (which would include other forms, such as various associations, the so-called non-governmental sector, academic community, etc.), there can be no stronger impact on public knowledge, as a dominant knowledge in public space.
