Summary/Abstract: The present paper has tried to underline the frequency of the infinitive in Italian and Romanian starting from a corpus taken from the texts: Sei personaggi in cerca d’autore (Luigi Pirandello), Ciociara (Alberto Moravia), Ricorda di dimenticarla (Corrado Calabrò), the articles of Insieme (2002), a bilingual magazine, but also from their translations into Romanian: Şase personaje în căutarea unui autor (trans. Alexandru Marcu), Ciociara (trans. George Lăzărescu), Aminteşte-ţi să o uiţi (trans. Viorica Bălteanu). We have noticed that the infinitive is more frequent in Italian than in Romanian, where it is often substituted by the subjunctive, but also by the gerund, by a tense of the indicative mood, by the supine or by a noun with verbal origin.
