Summary/Abstract: In this article we want to underline the importance of languages, as crucial component of the cultural heritage for the Maghrebians, peoples who experienced the colonialism and the acculturation. Our analysis follows the creative process, the stylistic and aesthetic choices of these authors who manifest for the preservation of the cultural identity. The analysis is based on the study of Arab-Berber’ s society, which was depicted by the novelists in their novels: “L’Honneur de la tribu”, “Le fleuve détourné”, “Le printemps n’en sera que plus beau” (Rachid Mimouni), “Ce que le jour doit à la nuit” (Yasmina Khadra), “Le dernier ami” (Tahar Ben Jelloun). The author Rachid Mimouni points out that the linguistic changes due to colonialism affect the modern Maghrebians at all the stages of their life and he denonces the aculturality. Yasmina Khadra is the Algerian novelist who alerts about the psycological effects endured by Algerians caused by the use of a new language. Tahar Ben Jelloun, the most famous Moroccan writer, describes in French the muslim Moroccan society and militates for cultural preservation. He indicates the effects of the linguistic mix on the immigrants and the birth of a new broken language. The aim of this article is to point out how the languages transform the individuals and that the native language plays a major role in the resistance against the overwhelming influence of the Occident. The novels of Mimouni, Khadra and Ben Jelloun show the strong influence of languages at the personal and collective level.
