Summary/Abstract: Political transformations of Poland since 1990 resulted in the economic crisis of the Walbrzych agglomeration, which previous economic profile, was based on black coal mining – and the considerable loss of population number. In 1994 the depopulation was initiated and actually is caused both by negative values of birth rate and migration balance. Young people mainly emigrate from the analysed area, therefore, the percentage of older people in the age structure of population is increasing deepening the demographic ageing process.
