Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the article is to describe so-called non-obvious spaces (neglected, degraded, destroyed and commonly perceived as “ugly” and unattractive) and their growing role in tourism. The second aim is to present the project-based learning (PBL) method in higher education and its role in making students of the University of Lodz’s tourism and recreation program aware of the importance of non-obvious spaces in tourism. The article defines the phenomenon of non-obvious spaces and the didactic method of PBL (five recent editions: 2019–2023). The 2023 course is discussed in more detail, with the results of a survey conducted among students on the importance of this method in the process of teaching tourism space were also analyzed.
