Summary/Abstract: Reading – a linear movement, heading towards the end; rereading – a circular, reflexive and interpreting movement. The author demonstrates the two reading processes using Borges’ story “El aleph”. By rereading, says the author, new meanings and interpretations are revealed. Borges denied the fact that the text could be a parody to Dante’s “Divine Comedy”, although Dante’s work is playing an important inter-textual role in the story. Reading and rereading are seen by Matei Călinescu as processes of exploration and of revisiting texts, like “walks in textual forests”.
