Summary/Abstract: By the end of the XII century, the lands of the Eastern Baltic remained outside the zone of European Christian civilization. In this isolated region between the Vistula and Narva rivers, processes of a high degree of extremity, connected with the imposition of Western Christianity and the subjugation of the local tribes, took place throughout the XIII century. Thus, the life of the Baltic peoples underwent an abrupt and radical change both in terms of social and political organization and in spiritual and religious life. This change determined the social and cultural shape of the region over the next few centuries.
