Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the phenomenon of human speech and word-image relationship in reference to contemporary culture (based on the logocentric tradition, but increasingly more dominated by image and “narrative of screen algorithm”), as well as in the context of challenges for contemporary school education. School’s chief task is to be understood as facilitating students’ linguistic development, with language being a primary attribute of humanity owing to which humans learn and get accustomed with the world. An aim formulated in such a way, possible to attain also in verbalizing images, necessitates an abandonment of educational provincialism and an adoption of an anthropocentric model of education.
