Summary/Abstract: The article highlights the problem of increasing the financial exclusion in society. The objective of this study is to assess the essence of this contemporary social problem, including its causes and forms, as well as to exemplify the level of banking among individuals aged 50+ in Poland. This group is believed to at risk of fi nancial exclusion. This will enable the estimation of the risk of deepening financial exclusion in the future in Poland and the recommendation of possible initiatives and actions to limit the exacerbation of this negative phenomenon in the future. The article demonstrates the results of a study conducted on a group of Poles. The research indicates that the majority of individuals aged 50+ have used basic banking services. The level of banking reached 89% among urban residents and 67% among rural residents. However, the group of underbanked individuals in urban areas accounted for 11%, while in rural areas, it was three times higher at 33% of respondents. These individuals are at risk of future fi nancial exclusion because they do not utilize any other banking services/products and are selfexcluding based on costs, habits, and psychological determinants (trust in banks).
