Summary/Abstract: The aviation industry encompasses a wide range of stakeholders, including airlines, airports and technology providers. There is a key issue of life safety in transport, and aviation in particular. A successful cyber-attack can result in the loss of many lives – resulting in a complete disaster in the fi rst place. If that were not enough, it can also destroy trust and ultimately the brand. Aviation cyber security can be considered a subset of general cyber security with the nuance of the aforementioned possibility of loss of life. Aviation systems must handle real-time behaviour and require very high reliability. Many of these systems are safety-critical and require strong certifi cation and rigorous cyber security controls. This article looks at cyber security in aviation and at airports. The subject of this study was the complexity of cyber security challenges in aviation and airports. The main objective of the article is to provide a theoretical overview of cyber security and to identify cyber threats aff ecting aviation and airport security. In this scientifi c study, the research literature analysis method was applied. The author also used interpretation and inference. The entire paper is summarised and supplemented by a series of footnotes.
