Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to show in selected areas the doubts and ambiguities that are raised by the current regulations on personal data protection and also to indicate examples of functional solutions in this area. The considerations in question present an analysis of the needs of local governments in connection with the implementation of their statutory tasks, and, so to speak, the use of personal data. The article presents legal regulations on the protection of personal data. Subsequently, the problem of personal data protection in public administration as well as in local government is described on the basis of these regulations. In conclusion, it was indicated that in the context of the functioning of personal data protection, the need to amend the regulations in question or clarify the legal solutions in operation is indicated. The research problem was formulated: What is the relationship between reality and the impact of social and economic changes in the area of personal data protection in local government? For the purposes of the research, a detailed method was used, as well as a critical analysis of both domestic and international legal acts and international in the analyzed area and also the authors’ own experience.
