Summary/Abstract: The relationship between borders and security represents the core of understanding international relations if we take into consideration that the UN system is based on a universally and multilateral approach of cooperation among states. Independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty and international recognition are mandatory for each legitimate participant. With these conditions, a clear delimitated territory and borders are required. Moreover, the state must have control within its territory and other states shall refrain in violating other’s territories. In this perspective we have witnessed many transformations in the past decades – dissolution of some states and emergence of new states, most of the cases as a result of internal conflicts as well as international arrangements. These changes have always questioned the idea of borders and frontiers and shaped new entities among states and within states.
