Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the social, political and educational contexts of patriotic education on the Polish language lessons which is a part of the school curriculum. It presents opinionsof teachers and descriptions of what they understand by shaping patriotic attitudes among students. Secondary school students were asked to reflect on their own understanding of patriotism and to prepare a screenplay of a movie that presents Poland to foreigners. Observations that result from the collision of different points of view lead to a conclusion that the results of education of patriotic consciousness among young people are not satisfactory. At the end of the article, the author suggests using current events and old literary texts to make education on lessons of the Polish language more geared to the homeland.
