Summary/Abstract: In this article, I set out to follow the way in which Mateiu I. Caragiale constructs in his work - the novel Rakes of the Old Court and the short story Remember - the cultural model of travel experiences that is both encyclopedic and bookish, having as its starting point an aesthetic referent: landscape painting and romantic sensibility. Therefore, from this perspective, I analyzed the cultural context evoked by the quote from Denis Diderot, „Salon of 1767”, used as a motto for the chapter on travels, „hagialâkuri”, with an outdated term privileged by the author, term that has its own cultural history. I have analyzed how the encyclopedic totalizing vision is passed through the filter of a romantic sensibility in Diderot and recovered as the utopia of the endless journey contained in the space of a painting. I also looked at the connection that is created between storytellers, the effects of retelling and the narrative strategies of the travelogue.
