Audiovisual translation from English into Russian on the example of a comparison of translation and subtitling

Summary/Abstract: The study considers the English – Russian audiovisual translation of a TV series. From the translation perspective, a TV series should be considered as multimodal content. A rationale is given for taking into account not only the text but the non-verbal aspects for a holistic approach to the series plot. Voiceover and subtitling are characterized and compared as applied to TV series translation. The pros and cons of these translation options are analyzed, and some solutions for translation difficulties are proposed.
